Perspectives from a World Changer
Dana Campbell, a recent graduate of Asheville High School, shares his experience with Serve To LEAD:
When I joined Serve To LEAD it was because I wanted to make an impact on the lives of others. Since joining, I have been filled with gratitude towards the smaller things that we are so privileged to have such as clean water, air conditioning, and even clothing.
I have learned about human dignity. We learn this about ourselves and others in our clubs and then work alongside each other fixing roofs, putting concrete floors in dirt floor homes, installing toilets in homes that don’t have bathrooms and even just sitting down and having open ears and listening to each other. In doing this, we are showing others that they do matter and are valued.
Through my time being a part of Serve To LEAD, I have learned much about what it means to be a serving leader; putting others before yourself and doing service not because it is self gratifying but because you truly want to make the world a better place.
Dana and others work with Serve To LEAD and the Ruth Plaut Kindergarten in La Mina, DR to provide summer enrichment activities for local youth.
