Asheville summer camp advances education and opportunity for youth in Hillcrest…

Serve To LEAD began summer programs by laying 385 yards of fescue, generously donated by Turf Mountain Sod, to enhance the outdoor play space for our Hillcrest summer program. Serve To LEAD and partners Youthful HAND provided seven weeks of academic enrichment and fun for 30 children, ages 5 – 11, living in low-income housing. Thanks to an Economic Mobility: Workforce Development grant from Bank of America, Serve To LEAD employed seven youth from the community to work alongside academic specialists to provide quality instruction to the children. Over 30 volunteers and staff led this successful summer program that provided an essential service to Asheville’s vulnerable children and families.
